Hardwood Refinishing

Time for a change but don’t want to rip out your classic wood floors? Let us breathe new life into your old and worn looking hardwood floors by refinishing them! You’ll be amazed at how beautiful your old floors will look after our experts have refinished them! We serve San Diego and surrounding areas including La Mesa, Lakside & Ramona.

So how does the process work?

Contact La Mesa Carpet & Linoleum today for an initial consultation. We’ll set up a convenient time to come to your home or business to access the condition of floors and measure the square footage. We’ll also look at any damaged areas to determine the best way to fix or replace those boards. If you are interested in something different than the classic natural look we can bring samples to help you select the exact look and finish you have in mind!

Once you are ready to get started, we’ll move out your furniture and tape off any rooms or areas not being refinished. Next up is sanding- we use machines to sand through the existing finish to the bare wood below. Our sander has a HEPA filter built in so while there will be dust, we do our best to keep it to a minimum. We then complete any repairs and condition and stain the wood as required. Finally, we apply 2-3 coats of Bona polyurethane finish to seal and protect your refinished floors- they will look beautiful!

Frequently Asked Questions:

1. Will we have to move out while our floors are being refinished?

Answer: You can usually stay in your home each night of the project. We do our best to finish each day at a point in the process where you can walk on your floors that evening. Once the final coat is applied, you can typically walk on it after 4 hours (wearing socks) and it is ready for regular foot traffic after 24 hours. Furniture can be moved back on as soon as 72 hours after the final coat; however, the finish will continue to harden for up to a week, so the longer we wait, the better. Finally, we recommend waiting a couple of weeks before putting any rugs down.

2. Is the refinishing process really dusty?

Answer: We do our best to minimize the dust in your home by taping up barriers, covering items that can’t be moved, and using a sander with a HEPA filter. We also clean up each day before we leave. Despite all that, there will be some dust- it is unavoidable. That said, we typically find that once we are done our customers are pleasantly surprised by the amount of dust.

3. How does refinishing compare to installing new hardwood with respect to price?

Answer: Refinishing is usually more cost effective, ranging in price from $3.50-$7.00 per square foot, depending on your unique project. New hardwood floors typically cost $8-$15 per square foot, including material and installation. That said, there are advantages and disadvantages outside of straights cost to both refinishing and installing new hardwood- let the experts at La Mesa Carpet & Linoleum help you decide which option is best for you!
